On August 31, 2026, the Marion County Planning & Zoning Commission approved the public hearing item to consider an ordinance imposing a temporary moratorium of up to 365 days on the acceptance, review or approval of development permits, development orders, rezonings and site plans for data centers, data processing facilities, data mining and cryptocurrency mining, by a vote of 6–0 (Planning & Zoning Commission). This was a vote of the planning body, not of the Board of County Commissioners.
